Benbow Inn Wedding: Scott & Megan

BI am OBSESSED with Megan and Scott. I did their engagement photos last year, and was so so excited to shoot their wedding. I’ve worked with a lot of Scott’s family, and just love being around them all. Megan & Scott both told me that they knew I had to be their wedding photographer after we did engagement photos and just had a blast together. I confess that I hear this often from my brides, but the grooms are usually less vocal about it–I was so so honored when Scott told me he felt the same way!

Megan & Scott chose the Benbow Inn for their wedding, in Humboldt County right on the Eel River. It’s close to where Scott proposed to Megan at Standish Hickey, and this neck of the woods is very special to them. Well, after spending the day there it’s special to me, too! Absolutely gorgeous location, with river access right underneath a gorgeous old bridge. I was losing it when I saw—Stunning! Megan was ready when I got there, and we got some shots of her getting into her dress before I checked in with Scott and got him set up for the first look. We opted to do the first look down by the river, since it was beautiful and away from the family/friends/guests that were out and about at the hotel. After the first look we were able to get in some shots of the two of them, their bridal party (just Megan’s sister and Scott’s brother) and Megan’s family photos before the ceremony began. I just love the look on Megan’s dad’s face every time he looked at her. You can tell his girls are his world! After the ceremony we photographed Scott’s family, then moved on to the reception. Some of my favorite moments included:

–Repeatedly telling Megan & Scott how obsessed with them I was. Seriously. They were game for whatever, so go-with-the-flow, and constantly being silly and laughing. Megan repeatedly said all that they day was about, was “I get to marry Scott today!” And she was absolutely right. That was all that mattered.

–There was a wedding crasher at the reception. He showed up (see photo below) had a glass of wine, and watched the reception. Scott finally talked to him and said he didn’t mind if he wanted a glass of wine or something, but that he would appreciate if the guy let his wedding day be just those invited. He was wearing uggs, y’all. Don’t get me wrong, I like my uggs too, but it was just hilarious (and unfortunately I cut them off in the photo of him). We started to refer to him as “Uncle Bob”, especially when he popped up a couple more times throughout the night.

–Scott & Megan’s friend Iced Scott during the reception. It was almost literally delivered to him on a silver platter (almost, because it was black). But still, so great. I love when this happens at weddings. The younger crowd is always laughing and cheering while the older folks are asking me what’s going on. That can be a hard one to explain.

Scott and Megan… where do I begin. I won’t even try, but just know how much I love you both and love your love. You guys are absolutely perfect for each other, and your love is a shining example of what so many people aspire to have in this lifetime. Hang on to it, and to each other. And to me, please, cuz I adore you.
