About Me

Hi there!

My name is Danielle Joy, but you can call me DJ. To put it simply, I'm a Wife, Dog Mom, and Photographer. Pretty much in that order.

About me, professionally:

I consider myself a natural light photographer with an illustrative approach. Great, so what does that mean exactly?! Well, I prefer to shoot with natural/available light to give my images a warm, natural feel, and tend to take a mixture of candid & posed shots---whatever it takes to get the perfect image, to make you feel something. I want to capture those special, fleeting moments; like the look in your dads eyes when he sees you for the first time on your wedding day, or the small but precious yawn of your 8-day old newborn, or the giggle of your fiancée as you tell me your engagement story, or your high school senior feeling on top of the world as they talk about their post-high school plans...I want to capture it all, and make every session as relaxed, easy-going, and fun as possible! I took a few photography classes over the years, but it wasn't until a friend needed a photo for a save-the-date back in 2010 that I fell in love with the camera. I picked up my (now) mother-in-law's film camera, played with her lenses, snapped a couple shots, and the rest is history! Well not quite that simple; it's been a long (and at times bumpy) road since then, but I was able to make this my full-time job in 2016 and have never been happier. It sounds cliche, but it really is true--when you love what you do, you can't even call it work!

About me, personally

I am THE definition of a people person! I love meeting people, talking, and learning what people are really about (guess that explains why I got a BA in Psychology). I have developed amazing relationships with my clients, many of them become great friends! That’s the best part about what I do—meeting people and making connections. I love the Boston Red Sox, DOGS, caffeine, shoes, sports, concerts, traveling, and all things rose gold. I’m originally from Santa Cruz, then lived in the Central Valley in Merced for my teen years, eventually moving to Sonoma County to attend Sonoma State University. I fell in love not only with the area, but also with a man named Joe, so I’ve decided to stick around. Joe & I got married in 2016, and we enjoy camping and spending time with our black lab, Dakota.

My promises to you:

You WILL have at least a little fun during our time together. Have a man that doesn't like being in front of the camera? That's fine, mine doesn't either. I promise for it to go by quick and be painless! Almost every husband/father I've photographed leaves saying it wasn't even close to as bad as they thought it was going to be! Have kids that run around like crazy with short attention spans? Perfect, I'll fit right in with them ;) I will play with them, laugh with them, let them be silly, and their true selves.

I hope for my images to stand the test of time. There are a lot of photography trends that come and go, but I promise that my images will not be heavily doctored, "filtered", or processed. They will be crisp, clear, warm and timeless! My goal is that when you are looking back on photos of your children once they've grown, or your wedding day on your 20th anniversary, that you can remember the day as it actually was, and have that moment perfectly frozen in time. 🖤
